Ingredients:
- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- ¾ cup packed brown sugar
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ⅓ cup of butter
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ¼ teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- ⅔ cup buttermilk
- 1 beaten egg
- ¼ cup chopped nuts
- Drizzle on your favorite icing — we did, yet it’s optional.
How to make:
- Combine flour, brown sugar, and salt.
- Cut in butter till crumbly; set aside ¼ cup crumb mixture.
- To remaining crumb mixture, add baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon and nutmeg. Mix well.
- Add buttermilk and egg; mix well.
- Spread batter into a greased 8x8x2-inch baking pan.
- Stir together reserved crumbs and nuts; sprinkle atop batter.
- Drizzle on your favorite icing if desired.
- Bake in a 350° oven for 30 to 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean.
- Serve warm. Treats 9.
